Many of the films at the Cleveland International Film Festival are educational. You can learn about past events, emotional issues or people that made an impact on others. Reaching for the Moon is a film about the American poet Elizabeth Bishop.
This film is set in the 50's and takes the viewer through Elizabeths relationship with Brazilian architect Lota de Macedo Soares.
Personally I didn't know much about Elizabeth Bishop. She left her life in New York to visit her friend Mary in Brazil who at the time was Lota's lover. Elizabeth then stayed in Brazil for years and had a successful career. During her time in Brazil she battled with a drinking problem that affected everyone around her.The Film Festival runs through March 30th. www.clevelandfilm.org
